Contributor Summary
Fred McCann Interesting search call for 8/31/09. District 3 reported a 76 year old W/M with Alzheimer's had last been seen at approximately 3:00 pm leaving his house in Sun City, AZ, on a golf cart. His wife assumed that he was going to one of the 7 golf courses in the area. When he did not return by 6:15 she became concerned and called patrol. While a hasty search of the area was being started and resources were being mobilized the subject called home. The subject had driven his golf cart to I-10 and Queen Creek road, a distance of approximately 40 miles. It's presumed he traveled through Surprise, Peoria, Glendale, Phoenix, and Salt River jurisdictions without being noticed as he traveled 51st avenue around the valley and through the reservation where he connected with Interstate 10. Presumed route. It was only once he started driving on the interstate that a concerned motorist stopped him and gave him a phone and he was able to call home. Just shows what's possible.
